New Year Reflections
Reflecting on the Year and Setting Intentions
This year has been a whirlwind. I launched a new business, celebrated my children turning 2 and 4, contributed to interviews, podcasts, and articles about early sleep and parenting, and, to be honest, probably stretched myself too thin. While I’m proud of what I accomplished, I’m also learning to let go of the things I didn’t get to.
As I reflect on everything I’ve learned this year, I’m focusing on two key intentions for the new year: patience and organization.
Patience
Patience with others has always come naturally to me. I try to understand where people—especially children—are coming from and give them grace. But when it comes to myself, it’s a completely different story. My inner voice can be harsh, critical, and judgmental.
This year, I want to practice being as kind and patient with myself as I am with others. To do this, I’ll:
Set clearer boundaries with loved ones so I have time for myself.
Protect the time I’ve planned for self-care and work without guilt.
Write a reminder to be patient with myself and stick it on my bedroom wall where I’ll see it daily.
Organization
If I had to pick one thing that consistently challenges me, it’s staying organized. My time, my home, my work—it all feels like a juggling act where I’m always just a step behind. The only areas where I feel truly on top of things are with my kids and my clients. They’re my priority, and I put all my energy into ensuring they feel cared for and supported.
But this year, things will shift. Both my kids will be in school for 6 hours a day, 4 days a week. That’s the most uninterrupted time I’ve had in years! I’m excited to finally have the space to focus on organizing my life.
Here’s my plan:
Start with a simple schedule that includes time for my home, my business, and myself.
Use the strategies I apply to support others to better support my own needs.
Allow flexibility to adjust as I go, keeping things manageable and realistic.
A Wish for You
Whether you’re pregnant, parenting little ones (like me), or in a completely different stage of life, I hope you take a moment to reflect on your own needs and goals for the coming year.
Patience with yourself is so important. We all face challenges, and we all deserve the chance to grow without the weight of self-criticism. I encourage you to set one intention for the next few months. Write it down and think about one concrete step to help you follow through. Writing things down is something I always recommend to clients—it can work just as well for personal growth!
Wishing you calm, peace, and warmth in the year ahead.
